Class 5Visit theNational Botanic Gardens of Wales

On Friday 28th March we headed off with Class 6 to the Botanic Gardens of Wales to learn about plant growth and setting up an allotment. Although it was grey and raining when we left Pendoylan, the rain had stopped by the time we reached the gardens....."West is Best!"
We met Ann, our workshop provider, and walked through the beautiful gardens to the Great Glasshouse.....the biggest single span greenhouse in the WORLD!! Inside the greenhouse we settled down to our workshop about allotments.

Ann told us many interesting things about planting seeds, making compost and growing in an allotment and we had many different activities to complete.

Then we went outside into the garden's allotments and we looked at the compost bins, different types of allotments and planting and the eco friendly greenhouse made out of two thousand plastic fizzy drink bottles! We were even lucky enough to plant up a bed in the allotment with broad beans....we hope they all grow well!

We had a great day out and learned lots about growing fruit and vegetables. We have already started growing seeds back in class and are looking forward to planting up the raised bed outside our classroom....and hopefully enjoying the fruits and vegetables we grow!
A big thank you to Mrs. Collingridge and Mrs. Buick for helping on our day out too.....diolch yn fawr iawn!
