A Great Day Out with Class 5

On Wednesday 16th July, we all enjoyed a great day out at the Red Dragon Centre in Cardiff Bay. First of all we all enjoyed a game of bowling which was great fun

After bowling we made our way to the cinema and enjoyed the film "How to Train your Dragon 2", eating tons of popcorn and sweet as we watched! To end our day out, we all ate our meal and enjoyed a quick visit to the arcade to spend any leftover money in our pockets! We had a great day out to finish a good but busy year in Class 5......

"Thank you Class 5.....I really enjoyed my year with you. Have fun and work hard in Year 6!"
lots of love ,

Last Entry for Year 6

Dear Parents,
Here we are and the summer holidays are around the corner.  This will be my last entry and with a "weeping and smiling eye"; I'll report on these last few days for you.

On Monday 23rd June, the class and I accompanied by Mrs. Rees, went to the Crucial Crew Event in Barry where several agencies i.e. Police, Trading Standards, held various talks to inform the pupils.

We sadly had our last space (Science) lesson with Emma on the 25th June and we shall miss her very much and I hope that she will be available for the upcoming Year 6 class next year. The title of this last workshop was "Is there anyone out there" which asked how we look for signs of life on planet Mars.

The children used litmus paper to test certain substances for their PH levels and examined the results.

Pupils examined the flow of lava here and the coloured plasticine marks "flow" from previous eruptions.

Here we are in Llandaff Cathedral at the end of our Leavers' Service.

We held an "Erosion Lab" yesterday where we examined the various types of erosion which affect the Earth's surface. This is our "beach" before water i.e. waves eroded it.

Here we have our eroded "beach after "Tsunami" like waves!

There it is, the end of our time together, I hope that the children have enjoyed me teaching them as much as I have enjoyed teaching them.  It has been an absolute delight to have been on our joined learning activities and adventures together this last term. I hope and wish that they will continue to thrive in their new Comprehensive Schools.

Good luck and all the best

Signing off

Gardener's Delight

Our next success in the garden has been our crop of peas. We have been picking them for over a week now and there are still plenty left for us to harvest.

All of us were able to taste the peas and decided they were really tasty....absolutely scrumptious!! It has been great to see- and taste- the results of all of our hard work in the vegetable plot!

Llangranog part one

Well dear all,
this Wednesday we set off on our epic adventure to Llangranog. What fun we had, probably Mr Parry more than Mrs Jones and I. Last year I somehow found myself on the "high ropes". An event I thought I ought to give a miss this year! Here are some photos to enjoy.
Ready or not, here I come!
Well hello, I think I should go too!
Last minute encouragement from Mr Parry.

So far so good!

Definitely time for a photo opportunity.

What goes up must come down (the climbing wall).
The mud assault course - permission to get dirty! Really dirty!!

They don't mind to get muddy, look at those smiles!

Really? Oh yes, that was so necessary!

If you can't beat them, you must join them !

Nishenka!! What did you do to Mr Parry ?!
Well Mr Parry, you don't look too unhappy about it !

Well super muddy, super fun and super teacher!

Thank you Mr Parry for representing Mrs Jones and I in this activity!

As part of our "sixties" theme we loved listening to the music of this period. The children then formed their own groups and decided on a song to be covered by them. There was a frantic pace of practising their songs in the last cpouple of weeks and theeir performance last week Monday was lovely to watch and hear. The lyrics of songs were mainly changed and the tune remained to support them. I was very proud of their efforts and we took videos their musical efforts.  here are some photos of the groups.

A super effort to Charlie's band which made an impromtu collection which went to Velindre Hospital!!

Seren's group who turned their song into a fruit munching, vegetable crunching message for all !

The girls' sixtet featuring a violin intro by the musical Sian !
Alex's group visualized their strong lyrics with some acting support from Max.
This girl group was "California Dreaming",
Don't you just love Ffion's dress ?
Excellent "sixties"costumes
Anything the girls can do we can do too !
This is definitely a Hippie, Mod and Rocker Combo !

Yes it's me again Mrs. Saye,

I am on a roll now that this Firefox browser let's me be a blogger again!!
Our last term's topic was "Mods and Rockers" which the pupils thoroughly enjoyed.  As part of this theme we went back in time and looked at what kind of music the youngsters listened to in the period of the "sixties".  Some of our pupils hadn't the fun of listening to LP's and really didn't know much about them.  So we decided to make our own LP sleeve and put a pretend LP in it.  Here are some results for you to see.

This is Max with his "Happy Hippies" LP cover.

Sian's "Hippie Mania" on a "VW Campervan" road trip.

There is Seren with her colourful poodle group!
Henry's Enterprise with the "Complete Collection".
Bethan's group "Shine" let's it all out!

Space Education

Dear parents,

sorry for the delay in blogging as I had some technical problems attaching photos.
We have had a busy term having gone straight into Inspection week after the Easter break.  The class is currently enjoying special science workshops delivered by Astro-Cymru on behalf of ESERO the european space organisation.  We started off with a 3d cinematic experience about space and we also looked into the nutrition of astronauts.  This week we are looking forward to a space rocket workshop.
This is Emma talking about a massive dinosaur claw in the previous workshop about meteorites and fossils.
I expect tha James never thought that he would touch fossilized "dinosaur poo"!!
