A Wild Morning!

On Tuesday May19th Class 5 had a very special visitor called Chris "The Nearly Wild Man" who came to talk to us about animals and how they have evolved and adapted to live in various places. Chris also brought many 'friends' along to help him......and we were able to meet them all!

First of all we met a number of different snakes and heard how they adapt to their environments - we held them to feel their muscles working inside!! We also met some bearded dragons called Bruce and Sheila (Australian!) and a gecko and were able to handle them all.

We were also introduced to tortoises, giant millipedes and Madagascan Hissing Cockroaches - they were REALLY fast and seemed to be determined to escape and stay with us in school - and even a scorpion which glowed in the dark!!

Finally we handled and learned about some less exotic creatures but we still all enjoyed stroking and cuddling the rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, chinchillas, chickens and barn owl, Basil.

We had a great morning with Chris and all of the animals and even Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Rees joined in the fun too.....Mrs. Rees was the bravest! Huge thanks to Chris from all of us in Class 5.

A Busy Time.........

Over the past few weeks, we have been very busy in Class 5.....and we don't mean JUST doing our tests!! We have been very busy planting vegetable seeds and during the last two weeks, our vegetable boxes have all been planted up and we have been eagerly watching the seedlings grow

So far, we have planted potatoes, carrots, lettuce, radish, beetroot, peas and runner beans and they all seem to be growing well so far! Lots of the class have been taking turns to water the seedlings every day so sometimes in Class 5.....we are glad to see a rainy day!!

During the week of our tests , we had a welcome visit from P.C. Kevin who came to Class 5 to talk to us about using the internet safely and cyber bullying.
P.C. Kevin showed us some excellent films which showed us how the internet can be used in the wrong way. They were very interesting and gave us lots to think about and discuss and we now all know how to use the internet safely and what to think about to keep ourselves safe when we are online.

Class 5 would like to send a huge "Thank you" to P.C. Kevin for coming to talk to us about this very important subject...."diolch yn fawr!"

A Swinging Start to the Summer Start

Mods and Rockers has been met with great enthusiasm and interest from Year 6. For one activity the class was split into groups to research either fashion, technology, music or work of the 1960's. The group had to work together and present a power point presentation. The presentations from every group were of an excellent standard.

The children really enjoyed the morning when Ben Rushgrove came in. He gave a great presentation to the children and his circuit training was great fun, the children were certainly puffed out by the end.

Mr Phillips very kindly brought in a volleyball set. After our cross country session we had a game. The children really enjoyed and we intend to continue developing their skills in this sport.

Last week was a great success for Year 6 as they all passed their Level 1 and 2 in Safe Cycling. We were very lucky with the weather and I know the children enjoyed the whole week.
