Hubble Bubble Potions

We began the Potions topic with our trip to the Botannical Gardens near Carmarthen. The weather was lovely, just a bit chilly. The children enjoyed the trip and learnt about plants in medicines and the history of medical science.

We have been doing our own science investigations. Investigating materials that dissolve, melt and materials that can be separated. The classroom was hub of activity.

We really enjoyed our last Eisteddfod at Pendoylan. We danced, sang and recited with true Welsh passion.

For comic relief we showed our dance moves to the school. For a bit of fun we created a new dance to 'SING by ED SHEERAN', Since January we have worked had in getting our dance moves just right!

Green Fingered Visit

On Monday March 2nd, Class 5 went to visit the National Botanical Gardens of Wales as part of our new topic of "Allotment". Thankfully, after an early snow shower, the weather settled and we had a day of blue skies and fluffy white clouds!

We were met by Einir who took us into a classroom for our workshop called "Sowing and Growing" We learned lots about seeds and how they germinate and we also looked inside broad bean seeds to see the tiny plant inside, ready to grow!

Einir then showed us how to make recycled newspaper plant pots and we all had a go at making one....some more successfully than others! When we had all made a pot we filled them with compost and were given two marigold seeds to plant.

Following our lunch, we explored the great glasshouse and tropical greenhouse and looked around the allotment area for ideas.

We would all like to say a big "thank you" to Einir and all of the staff at the National Botanic Gardens and also thank Mrs. Rees, Mrs. Walters and Mrs. Hall for helping us on our trip...."diolch yn fawr iawn!"

We Are The Champions!

Year 5 all enjoyed the topic of "Champions" which has now come to an end! A large part of our time during this topic was taken up with sports coaching. All of the children were given great opportunities, being put through their paces by coaches from Cardiff City Football Club, WRU/Dragon Sports and Hockey Wales.

Here are some photographs of the children with Martin from Cardiff City - a six week skills course which taught the children all of the skills needed in the game of football.

So, a huge thanks to all of the sports coaches who visited and taught us lots of skills throughout our topic. I know that the children learned lots AND had great fun at the same time!!
