Year 6 Gallery Opening

We all really enjoyed our Gallery topic and it culminated in the fantastic opening of Pendoylan's first art gallery, "Gallery6". We invited our parents, governors, staff and all the school to view our work and they all attended our grand opening to view our paintings, pastel and collage work, as well as looking at our "Under Milkwood" corner featuring work inspired by Dylan Thomas and Peter Blake.

We all dressed as artists for the day and of course we couldn't open our Gallery without having refreshments! We all made cakes inspired by the artists we had studied. We had Monet's, Water lily Swirl cupcakes, Budding Picassos and Seurat's Pointy cakes. They were our edible masterpieces.
                                                   Lovely!

Oh la la! Where did you get that hair?

A big thanks to Mrs Skelly and Mrs Rhys for helping in the evening and Mrs Skelly and Mrs Baker for helping with the baking. xx

It all started with a visit to the National Museum of Wales. Here we are in the Dylan Thomas gallery.

We visited the Welsh Landscape Gallery and the Impressionist Gallery. It was truly inspiring.

A former pupil of the school, Miss Olivia Tutton has just graduated in Fine Arts and she brought her work in to show us and she also came in to help us set up our gallery too. Thanks Olivia we loved your work!

"Gallery 6" is ready and waiting!

Special Visit

Last week we were very lucky in Class 5 to be visited by a crew of firefighters from Cowbridge Fire Station. They came to our class to speak about fire safety and fire prevention.

We watched a video about how quickly and easily fire can start and spread and were able to ask the firefighters loads of questions!
Following the talk we were lucky enough to go to the staff car park to look at the fire engine .....

......and have a go at holding the fire hose! We had great fun trying to get everyone as wet as possible and really enjoyed it.....although Mrs. Jones was sad that we didn't get around to washing her car!

We would all like to say a huge "diolch yn fawr" to the firefighters who came to visit us. We had a great time and we all learned some VERY important lessons.

Hockey Coaching

Although we have now finished our topic on "Champions" in Class 5, we are still continuing with some of our sports coaching. We have been very lucky to have a registered hockey coach, Judith, visiting us each week to coach the children.

The children have all been learning lots of the skills needed to play a hockey match - passing, dribbling and tackling.

All of the children have had great fun learning these new skills and we would all like to thank Judith for her great training sessions with us.
"Diolch Judith!"
